  • Like the title says. Can anyone explain to me (in a very clear way) on how it actually works? The ingame and the Runes page descriptions goes over my head.

    • Directly off Runes page:

"30% of the damage dealt will reduce up to 4% of the enemy's Max HP"

Basically a creatures Max HP is their starting total in a game.  So when a critter with destroy runes hits an opponent's critter not only does it deal an amount of damage to that critter's hit points, it also at the same time chips away at the Max HP permanently for that game.  (This is viewed via red filling the life bar from the right side).

So example, I have a critter with 10,000 hit points.  My opponent attacks that critter with a creature equipped with Destroy runes.  Their attack (to make this simple for my calculations) successfully deals 1,000 damage.  So not only does my creature's hp reduce to 9,000 their max hp would also reduce to 9,700.

A couple things to note with Destroy runes:

In the example above 30% of the damage dealt reduced the max hp.  However if the damage dealt say was 2,000 instead (again making it easier for my calculations) only 20% of the damage dealt would be used to chip away at the Max HP as no more then 4% of their max hp can be chipped away at any one time.  (so only 400 hp would have been removed permanently).

Multiple hits do not all work, (so only once with their max hp be reduced per turn.  So having say Hwahee equipped with these will not chew away their max hp x6 times with her third skill "Pride will Fall", just one of those hits.)  So you are far better having these equiped on single big hitter critters.

Having multiple sets of Destroy Runes on a creature do work for increasing how much you can chip away though.  So 1x sets total 4% of Max HP, 2x sets total 8% of Max HP, 3x sets total 12% of Max HP.

Use of Destroy runes on creatures like Ryan (continuous damage) and Decamaron (Scaling damage according to the Max HP of the opponent) is counter productive as you are reducing the Max HP of the creature and therefore making their natural skills less effective.

Boss fights  (Such as at the end of all the halls, Dragon, Giant and Necro) Destory will have no effect on them.

Also, I find Destroy works best partnered with a critter using Violent runes.

Why is this useful using Destroy? Well the obvious reason would be that a critter that heals regularly (say Fran for example) won't be able to heal up to their starting max hp, but only up to their reduced one.  So in theory if Fran was the critter in the example above my Fran would only be able to heal up to 9,700 hp.  And in theory with more and more hits chipping away at her Max HP you could get her as low as 4,000 hp left.  Making her an easy target to finish off.

Also useful to counter abilities that scale damage/skill effectiveness based off that creatures Max HP.  So for example: Gorgo's abilities would be less threatening with the damage they deal and Chasun's "Amuse" ability would be less effective in healing.

Hope this helps answer your question.

    • Omg so it chips away the max HP permanently. I did not know that, which is why I asked. I know what max HP and all are lol but the rune set description does not say it chips away at the max HP permanently for the battle. "reduce upto 4% of the max HP" t thought this meant it'll add 4% more damage to the attacks -.- com2us should do better job explaining.

    • True, but often I believe the discription is difficult due to translating from one language to another. Glad I could assist.

    • Does Destroy Max HP reduction work with multihit attacks? If it does, then destroy could be one of the best set for a mons with multihit atk (M.Knight, Shinhwa and all).

    • I feel destroy runes are anti-healer. anyone agree?

        Loading editor
    • Well yes.  i see them as being useful in those arena games that ended in a tie because Rina/Chasun just kept themselves in the game and never died.  It allows players to hold in those battles  to a point where you can win.  Unfortunetly I don't see them used that often when I personally find them very useful.

    • I'm confused. Karo's explanation although detailed didn't clear up anything for me. What does "30% of damage dealt will reduce 4% of MAX HP" even mean? How are XX% damage and 4% MAX HP even related?

So example, I have a critter with 10,000 hit points.  My opponent attacks that critter with a creature equipped with Destroy runes.  Their attack (to make this simple for my calculations) successfully deals 1,000 damage.  So not only does my creature's hp reduce to 9,000 their max hp would also reduce to 9,700.

These passages made it even more confusing for me, especially the last paragraph. Can someone (hopefully an expert) clarify the working of Destroy rune in details? I'd be forever grateful. Thank you.

    • I am sorry that my description has confused you.  Hopefully this will help you:

"30% of the damage dealt will reduce up to 4% of the enemy's Max HP"

There are two things going on with Destroy Runes, so I will try to explain by breaking it up into its two parts.

Part 1: "30% of the damage dealt....

When you attack a critter with destroy runes equipped 30% of the successful damage dealt will permanently remove the life of the creature attacked for the rest of that game.  So the example I described above uesed a creature dealing 1,000 points of damage.  30% of that damage would be 300 hp's permanently removed.  So the creatures still loses 1,000 HP, but 300 HP of that 1,000 is permanently lost.  Healing can not recover this loss for the rest of the game.

Part 2: ...will reduce up to 4% of the enemy's Max HP"

Now this part puts a further restriction on the amount permanently removed, basically if that 30% of the damage would be over 4% of the Max HP of the attacked creature, it would only permanently take 4% of the Max HP for the rest of the game (and not the full 30% amount of the damage dealt).  So in the description above I used 2,000 points of damage instead of 1,000 to a creature with 10,000 Max HP.

30% of 2,000 points of damage is 600 - therefore 600 HP would permanently be removed.  However....

4% of the Max HP 10,000 is 400 HP - Because 600 is more than 4% of the Max HP in this case only 400 of the damage points is permanently removed instead.

I hope this is a better explanation for you.

    • Okay so here's what you are saying: (I'll use the case of a Hwa with destroy runes attacking an enemy with 15K HP)

First attack - Hwa hits the enemy for 2000. Since 30% of 2000 damage dealt is 600, and 4% of 15K is 600. 600 is removed from Max HP permanently right?
Second move - Hwa hits the enemy again but for 3000 this time. Since 30% of 3000 is 900, which is over 4% of 15K, hence only 600 is removed right?
I think I understand now, if this is how it works. Thanks for the clarification.

    • Yep, you got it.  Thumbs up!  Glad that I could help in the end.

    • Does anyone know if the 4% max HP lost is relative to their original max HP or their new max HP after reduction?

      To clarify:

Hwa starts with 15,000 hp, and gets hit with 2000 damage, permanently losing 600hp.

Hwa's MAX HP is now 14,400.

Hwa gets hit again for 2000. Does this reduce her MAX HP by 576 (4% of her current 14,400hp), or 600 (4% of her original 15k)?

        Loading editor
    • It will reduce by 600, it is always based off the original max HP.

        Loading editor
    • so guessing this has no chance of stacking with raoq passive then? or grtting extra move off violant rune set?.

        Loading editor
    • if so raoq coukd really destroy a healer

        Loading editor
    • I don't see where are you heading to. Raoq's passive is "Get an extra turn if you kill the enemy.". As such, you would normally use Raoq to chain-nuke monsters with low-mid max HP. Destroy runes are meant to deal with monsters with massive amounts of HP, wich are far away from Raoq's passive's reach.

Perhaps you referred to 1st skill's ability to multi-hit. If that's the case then this is already answered: multi-hitters do not benefit from additional destroy effects.

Regarding violent runes, yes, since violent produces additional turns (not to multi-hit) this leads to additional destroy effects.

    • Doesit work on raids?

        Loading editor
    • Raids are boss fights, boss' are are not affected by destroy runes. So no, destroy doesn't work in raids.

    • If monster A is equipped with a Destroy rune set and attacks monster B, and monster B is killed+revived, what is the Max HP they are revived with?  Their original Max HP from the start of the battle, or the lowered Max HP from before they died?

        Loading editor
    • They will be revived with the lowered max HP from before they died.

        Loading editor
    • What if the mon was runed with a combination of Destroy and Revenge sets?

In the event of a counter-attack; would the damage dealt still apply the permanent hp% loss?

Or is the Destroy proc only applicable when it's on that specific mon's turn?

        Loading editor
    • So Lushen's ult cannot work 3 times a hit? Just once like ordinary AOE do?

        Loading editor
    • Destroy works on revenge, or any counterattack.

Correct on Lushen's 3rd skill; being a multi-hit, the Destroy effect will only happen on the first hit out of them.  On each target.

        Loading editor
    • Destroy works on revenge, or any counterattack.

Correct on Lushen's 3rd skill; being a multi-hit, the Destroy effect will only happen till it reach the 4% target max HP, then it'll stop.  On each target.

        Loading editor
    • Merrill Sagat, sry for not adding Quote mark but it do work on multi hit, just restricted for 4% per turn, per target. so if my first attack do not reach the 4% max HP destroy, the second can complete the amount to 4%(not add complete) and so on till the 4% is reached

    • can i gave my chasun a destroy rune?....

        Loading editor
    • I have seen some Chasun's built this way so yes, if you want to.

        Loading editor
    • Is there, at some point, that the destroy rune would stop working in terms of overall permanent hp destroyed? Lets say i have been able to destroy 80% of max hp (after X so minutes). Does it still continue on to diminish or would there be a cap?

        Loading editor
    • There's a cap of 60% of max HP. After 60% is gone, you can't go below that.

      Source

    • Since Chasun defies all rules, thought I should ask.

If I have a monster use destroy runes and attack a random enemy (not the enemy Chasun), taking their max HP down some number. If Chasun, at 100% of her own HP, uses Fallen Blossoms on the monster I attacked, would that monster be back to the original max HP or the newly decreased max HP?

        Loading editor
    • It should be the newly decreased max HP. Destroy effects last the remainder of the battle.

        Loading editor
    • What bepoper said is correct

        Loading editor
    • What about things like Jultan's passive? If I have Destroy runes on Jultan and it takes a crit to inflict 12% of Jultan's Max HP to the attacker, will it also apply the max HP shred?

        Loading editor
    • Not confident on that but im pretty sure it doesnt work... might play test that one and get back to you (just summoned jultan in my second account)

        Loading editor
    • Passives/Skills based on Max XP Work with the current HP at the momment it is being used, so if Max HP is decreased that is the effective HP during remaining time of that battle. It is not retroactive.

        Loading editor
    • I think the questions was more about his reflect damage from his passive being able to pass on destroy effects.  Not whether his passive is affected by him being destroyed.  (Which you are right, the reflected damage would be less).

    • how to use the runes nemesis and monster nemesis what is good for use ? please help me ^^//

        Loading editor
    • althoug a bit offtopic i will help,

Nemesis runes will increse your atk bar for the amount of dmg you take meaning more dmg = more turns.

this is good on sustain tank set for mons like camilla or chow.

however the main perpose is for endgame arena defence 'nem healers' these are monsters with good ai and a strong aoe heal like praha, emma, ariel.

this is a direct counter to 2x lushen or aoe cleave comps.

as lushen #1 will hit and increse their atk bar giving them a turn healing the defending team up so they can survive the 2nd lushen,

giving them the chance to beat the now vunearble offence.

    • I built a copper with destroy but he doesnt destroy with first attack. why?

      Immesity into coppers ignore defense

        Loading editor
    • you destroy only a little bit when you dont hit hard (sometimes unnoticeable)

        Loading editor
    • Just my 2 cents here, but imo destroy runes are best used on mons that don't hit very hard but are hard to kill.  Copper isn't a good choice for destroy since you want copper to be OHKOing everything.  best destroy users: camilla, healers (esp chloe since she tends to be ignored after first turn), megan, bella, baretta (for pvp, NOT toa), the desert queens, mav, bernard, the hargs, chiwu, the neostone agent sisters, support mons like the mermaids and the harp magicians, etc.  Again, just my opinion but what I have found most useful.

        Loading editor
    • Destroy Camilla :3 so good on gwd.

        Loading editor
    • So, theoretically, can a raoq can chain hit anyone down with his awakened 1st and vio runes?

        Loading editor
    • yes but its a lower chance than getting a 30 spd rune (0.0000000238%)

        Loading editor
    • wait, I think we decided that chain hits do NOT proc destroy past the 4% mark?  So the answer is YES, any monster could chain hit someone down on vio/destroy, but raoq doesn't have any advantage.  Advantage goes to mons who gain another turn or get additional turns: dice magicians, Yen, Antares, etc.

        Loading editor
    • But that is the thing he hits hard. My plan for him was, just in case he doesnt kill an eladriel, he will destroy some max hp, just for fun gw. But then.. Imesity gets the first turn --> gives the turn to copper --> copper ignores defense and no destroy happens, sad.

I dont understand why, cant ignore defense destroy hp, is it because its coppers first turn??? Feels like the plan should work but no.

        Loading editor
    • And you are positive that it isn't destroying 4%?  Since it can only destroy 4% at a time, the red bar will never be very big after the first hit no matter how much hp you take away.  Also, on huge HP mons like eladriel, who normally has 30kish hp, the destroy will only take away 1,200 hp.  That will look like a tiny little piece of a 30k hp bar.

        Loading editor
    • Yes, he almost killed an eladriel (to the point where my no damage delphoi killed him next turn no crit first skill) and no red bar at all.

        Loading editor
    • doesnt matter how much damage you do in one turn, you're only going to destroy 4% of his max hp, in my experience you are much more likely to see results with something like a destroy equippped rina, slowly chipping down the max hp of everything around her

        Loading editor
    • is there a limit to the amount of hp that could be destroyed or can you destro all their hp till they die?

        Loading editor
    • 60% is the maximum amout you can destroy.
