- Named after iris, plants with showy flowers that are commonly purple or white.
- Her light elemental typing may refer to the Latin word iris, meaning "rainbow" or Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow. Rainbows are formed by light reflecting, refracting, and dispersing in water droplets.
- It may also be a reference to the muscular diaphragm which controls the size of the pupils, which in turn controls the amount of light that enters the eye.
